Academic Booster Club
History and Purpose:
The South Greene High School Academic Booster Club was organized
in 1995, with the purpose of promoting and enhancing academic
achievements for all students at South Greene. Mrs. Kathy
Austin, County School Board member, was the first president and one
of the principal organizers. Due to the tremendous support of
parents, faculty, students, alumni, interested individuals in the
community, and businesses, this organization has been able to award
thousands of dollars in
scholarships and recognize hundreds of students for academic
excellence since its inception. This year alone we were able to
award $10,500 in academic scholarships to deserving SGHS
Academic Booster Club Activities:
Annual Academic Honor's Program: This event is
held in the spring of each year, where students are awarded
certificates, academic medals, chevrons, and academic letters for
making the A or B honor roll and for their GPA.
Academic Scholarships: Through an
application process, students are chosen by a scholarship committee
based on specific qualifications and criteria. These are awarded at
the Annual Academic Honor's Program in the
Students of the Year: These students are
chosen by the faculty and staff for their overall outstanding
performance for the year and are recognized and awarded at the
Annual Academic Honor's Program.
Students of the Month: Each month, the
club honors an outstanding boy and girl from each grade.
These students are chosen by the faculty. This award is based
on good citizenship, service, and grades. Students selected
receive a certificate, a free combo meal donated by a local
restaurant, and their names are displayed on a bulletin board in
the school hallway.
Faculty and Staff Appreciation: The club honors
the South Greene faculty and staff with meals during National
Education Week. Many parents participate by making dishes or
donating items to make these meals possible.
Important Fundraising Projects:
The Annual Benefit Golf Tournament: The
golf tournament is the main event that funds the activities of the
Academic Booster Club. This event is the held in the fall. Many
local businesses participate in the golf tournament by entering a
team, or providing individual hole sponsorships, or by
Vendor Discount Cards: At the beginning of
each school year the club sells vendor discount cards in which many
local businesses participate.
