Course Description: Algebra 1 primarily focuses on variables and expressions, equations, inequalities, functions, graphing, solving systems, polynomials, factoring, quadratic equations, statistics and probability, & radical expressions and equations.

Every student is required to take the End Of Course Test (EOC) at the end of Algebra 1 B.

 

Course Goal:

  • Participate productively in a group, communicating effectively, and working cooperatively towards an achieving goal.
  • Demonstrate adequate proficiency of Algebraic equations and graphs.
  • Develop an effective note-taking strategy and use notes to analyze and create information.
  • Apply useful study skills in order to independently stay on task both inside and outside class.

Expectations:

Come to class ready to learn (mentally and physically).
Complete assignments & participate in class.
Our classroom is a safe space to grow in our learning. There is a ZERO TOLERANCE for name-calling, bullying, or disrespectful language. ALL opinions and ideas will be respected and heard.

Procedures:

Beginning and End of Class: Students are expected to come into class calmly sitting at their assigned seats prepared for class. Being prepared means…

having writing utensil and paper out
having work from previous class out and ready to be checked or turned in
having backpack out of the way

When packing up, please ensure all trash is picked up and thrown away, and all desks have been returned to their original positions, and any classroom supplies are returned to its stations.

Bathroom: There will be a bathroom break after lunch.

Electronic Devices: Cellphones and other electronic devices are not allowed out in the classroom unless explicit permission has been given from the teacher. Students will replace the calculator with their phone. If student is using phone during class, teacher will ask student to lay phone on teacher’s desk. If this occurs often, the student’s phone will be in the office and will not be given back until the end of the day.

Grading:

25% Tests, 30% Homework, 20% Quizzes, 25% Participation (Bellringers, notes, etc)
IF YOU ARE ABSENT: it is your responsibility to come talk to me about any questions. I will provide the assignment either online or in a makeup folder.

 

A = 90-100

B = 80-89

C = 70-79

D = 60-69

F = 0-59
