Early Post-Secondary Opportunities (EPSO)
SGHS currently offers multiple opportunities to earn EPSOs including Dual Enrollment, Dual Credit, & Advanced Placement (AP) classes.
Dual Enrollment is a program that allows high school students (usually juniors, and seniors) to enroll in college courses for credit prior to high school graduation. Dual Enrollment courses are typically taken off campus at a post-secondary institution.
SGHS offers dual enrollment courses through Walters State, ETSU, Tusculum, & TCAT-Morristown (through the Greene Technology Center). Dual Enrollment sign-ups and informational meetings are every Fall & Spring semester.
Advanced Placement courses are rigorous, college-level classes in a variety of subjects that give students an opportunity to gain the skills and experience colleges recognize. To receive college credit for an AP course, students must score a 3 or higher on the AP exam for that course.
AP courses are offered at SGHS on campus and through the Niswonger Foundation via online courses. SGHS courses include English Literature & Composition, Computer Science and Human Geography. Niswonger online classes vary from year to year depending on teacher availability.
Dual Credit courses are the opportunity for high school students to take college credit–bearing courses taught by college-approved high school teachers. To receive college credit for the Dual Credit courses, students must take and pass the State exam for that course.
SGHS currently offers these Dual-Credit courses: World History, US History, Greenehouse 2 Mgmt, Intro to Business, Pre-Cal & Statistics.
Students typically earn industry certifications through courses taken at Greene Technology Center, however, some are offered at SGHS with Specific CTE pathways.
